Important Maintenance Items

1

Oil Change/Fluids

Everyone knows your engine oil is your vehicle's life blood. It is the most common service performance at most repair. Most drivers are quite good about regularly changing their oil-and they should be! But your vehicle is full of other fluids that do require mantenance, just less often. You have coolant, transmission fluid, brake fluid and power steering fluid that also need attention. We follow your manufacturer's service intervals when recommending these services.

2

Tires

Tires are expensive, even more so in recent years so tire maintenace is more important than ever. We usually recommend tire rotation every 5,000-10,000 miles. You should also have an alignement check once a year and an alignment service if your vehicle is out of spec. These services will help your tires to wear evenly and it gives your vehicle a regular tire check to catch an issues early on before damage can be done.

3

Tune-Ups

Your engine is the reason you get from A to B and it is comprised of many parts. Some of these parts can wear overtime so it is important to follow your manufacture's service intervals to ensure those parts don't fail while you are on the road. Tune-ups can include repalcement of any of the following components: spark plugs, plug wires, ignition coils, air filter, drive belts, or valves. It may also include a full system cleaning.

Typical Car Maintenance Schedule

Though the details will vary model to model, this is an example of what is typically recommended for each mileage reading on the odometer:

Every 5,000 miles

Every 10,000 miles

At 36,000 miles

  • Full mechanical inspection. This is also when most manufacturer's warranty expires. So, plan to have this done just before you hit your 36,000. This way, anything that comes up as needing repair should be covered under warranty.

At 50,000 miles

  • Replace brake pads and fuel filter

  • Drain and replace transmission fluid and filter

  • Inspect exhaust, emissions, and suspension systems

At 60,000 miles

  • Replace spark plugs

  • Change tires

  • Inspect belts, hoses, and valves (if the vehicle is equipped with a timing belt, have it changed according to the automaker’s recommendations to avoid possible engine damage)

At 100,000 miles

  • Change high-mileage coolants and 100,000-mile spark plugs (if so equipped)

  • Full mechanical inspection

At 125,000 miles

  • Change O2 sensors, coolant, and brake fluid

  • Inspect the air conditioning compressor and belt tensioner

  • Replace shocks and struts and get a wheel alignment

At 180,000 miles

  • Change the power steering fluid

  • Clean airflow sensor

  • Inspect seals on axles and driveshafts and replace if leaking

  • Inspect the timing chain (if so equipped) and engine/transmission mounts
