Reprogramming

In modern automobiles, there are numerous electronic control units, or "brains," within the vehicle that oversee and regulate various systems such as power steering, traction control, entertainment, and cruise control. Powered by sophisticated software, these units not only manage operations and detect faults but also receive updates just like your computer or smartphone.

At Differentials Plus, we leverage cutting-edge technology to ensure your vehicle operates flawlessly with the most optimal software available. Our expert technicians utilize up-to-the-minute updates, for most domestic and Asian, models, seamlessly uploading and downloading reprogramming requests while your vehicle sits in the bay. This live process guarantees no outdated programming, enabling us to replace components and conduct repairs that often necessitate programming post-installation. Unlike many shops that defer to dealerships for such tasks, we can perform these repairs in-house, ensuring your car operates trouble-free with the latest and most effective programming implementation.

When Will I Need Reprogramming?

1

Transmission Repalcement

Following a transmission replacement, reprogramming becomes imperative to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of the new transmission within your vehicle's electronic system. The transmission control module (TCM) relies on precise software instructions to coordinate gear shifts, torque distribution, and various transmission functions. Without proper reprogramming, the TCM may struggle to communicate effectively with other control units, leading to erratic shifting, decreased fuel efficiency, or even potential damage to the newly installed transmission.

2

Battery Replacement

While it is more common in European brand vehicles some vehicles do require reprogramming or coding of the new battery. Newer vehicle with more luxury features like heated seats and steering wheels command more battery power so vehicles are equipped with BEM, Battery Energy Management system. This system learns and controls your battery as it ages to prolong its life. When you replace the aging battery with a new battery- the system needs to be told this is a new battery and it should be treated differently than the previous battery.

Software Updates

What we see often at the shop, is a custoemr complinaing about a loss of power, or running kind of rough condition. One thing we always check for is a software update related to the concern. The manufactures, at times, will release new software aimed it rectifing an issue that has presented itself in multiple vehicles. These updates tell the vehicles computer to operate a little differently than before. May times, we find these updated correct the problem no further repair is required.
